Allister Coetzee declared himself “satisfied” with the DHL Stormers 28(13) – 6(6) win over the Currie Cup Champion Lions at DHL Newlands on Friday. “It was a physical game, just what we needed at this stage of our preparation. A good training exercise but there is still work to do.” said the coach.

In the next round of preparation fixtures for Super Rugby 2012, the DHL Stormers this week take on the MTN Lions and then the Toyota Cheetahs in the DHL Pre-Season Series.
The 2 fixtures both take place at DHL Newlands, with the DHL Stormers taking on the MTN Lions in the opener on Friday 27 January and then the Toyota Free State Cheetahs on Saturday 4 February. The games form an important part of each of the teams’ preparation for the rigours of Vodacom Super Rugby.

The annual Boland Cavaliers vs DHL Stormers warm-up match, hosted by Boland Rugby, will take place at Boland Rugby Stadium (Wellington), on 21 January 2012 at 15h45. It will be the first warm-up match for both teams.

WP Rugby recently confirmed that Peter Grant will return from Japan at the conclusion of the Japanese domestic season, to again play for the DHL Stormers in 2012. In further transfer news, Province also announced the signing of versatile front rower Deon Carstens from Saracens in the UK.

Allister Coetzee today confirmed that Schalk Brits has joined up with the DHL Stormers, on loan from Saracens, as loose forward cover for the injured Duane Vermeulen. Nick Koster is expected to wear the number 8 jersey whilst Brits will provide cover and impact from the bench.

The DHL Stormers made it two from three on their Australasian tour as they ground out a hard fought but deserved 16-3 win over the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday.
It was the Stormers’ first win at the Brumbies’ home-ground, and only their third in 14 starts against the Australian franchise, so there was reason for the Stormers to feel satisfied with the four points that consolidates their position on top of the South African Super Rugby conference.
