The withdrawal of the Sharks from the annual pre-season Cape Town based tournament and a change in sponsor will see the DHL Stormers take on the MTN Lions and the Toyota Cheetahs in the “DHL Pre-Season Series”. The 2 fixtures will both take place at DHL Newlands, with the Stormers taking on the Lions in the opener on Friday 27 January and then the Cheetahs on Saturday 4 February.

After an extended period of rest, the DHL Stormers commenced an intensive phase of conditioning training this week. “Down time for players is as important as training at this time of year and a balance has to be found between ensuring the guys are physically and mentally rested, but are in the best condition they can be in by competition phase. We decided on a compulsory 3-week lay-off this year with a 4th week of conditioning introduction at a venue of their choice thereafter. Therefore they had 4 weeks away from the HPC and have returned fresh and amped for...

Our very sincere thanks go to all our supporters in South Africa and abroad for the quite incredible support we have enjoyed throughout this year's Vodacom Super Rugby Competition. We are indeed privileged and humbled to have you all as part of the team and for this we thank you. The support at DHL Newlands yesterday was once again phenomenal. We are most proud to enjoy such support, that which makes Newlands so unique in world rugby. It is your attendance that makes Newlands so special - a stadium whose wonderful atmosphere is always so favourably commented on by visiting...

The DHL Stormers will take on the Crusaders in the Cape based Vodacom Super Rugby semi-final on Saturday 2 July (17h05). The Crusaders qualified for the DHL Newlands semi-final by beating the Sharks 36-8 in the first round play-off decider in New Zealand today. The DHL Stormers qualified to host the semi-final by finishing second on the overall log and had a bye this week. The other first round play-off decider saw the Blues beat the Waratahs in Auckland 26-13 yesterday. The Blues now travel to play the other host semi-finalists, the table topping Reds, in Brisbane.
The DHL Stormers found their attacking range at the right time as they powered to a 44-34 win over the Cheetahs in their final Super Rugby league match in Bloemfontein on Saturday night. The Stormers scored a four-try bonus point for the fourth time this season, but they didn’t need it as all they required was a win to put them back into the top two and book an important bye for next week and, more importantly, automatic entry into the semifinal round. Blow-by-blow scoring It is the second successive year that the Stormers have finished second, and they will...

Allister Coetzee at a press conference at the High Performance Centre today named his team to take on the Toyota Cheetahs in the crucial last league game of the season. The DHL Stormers’ destiny remains largely in their own hands and depending on results in the final league fixtures and in their game against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, the Cape franchise could finish 1, 2, or 3 on the log, qualifying for a home semifinal or quarterfinal (1st round finals series) game. The DHL Stormers play the last fixture on Saturday (19h10) and will know exactly what is required before...

Destiny still in Stormers hands despite defeat

The DHL Stormers were understandably disappointed following a narrow 19-16 defeat to rivals the Vodacom Bulls at DHL Newlands on Saturday evening. In a tightly fought contest, the Vodacom Bulls scored the first try of the game through Francois Hougaard that put the visitors into a 19-9 lead with only eight minutes left. The home team, however responded with a try of their own through Andries Bekker in the 78th minute to keep hopes alive. With the final play of the game the DHL Stormers almost snatched the win thanks to a Jaque Fourie break that put Bryan Habana through,...

It is another massive Super Rugby week as we near the business end of the competition. There is always something special about a North/South derby and this week’s game is no different with massive interest and a sell-out crowd. We were all happy with the tour, but it is good to be back and everyone is really looking forward to playing in front of the Faithful again. There is nothing quite like it anywhere! The team is in a good space and remain focussed on keeping our winning momentum. Everybody knows what the derby will entail and demand - and...

The DHL Stormers consolidated their position on top of the South African conference and increased their chances of a top two finish on the overall Vodacom Super Rugby log with an emphatic 40-3 win over the Rebels in Melbourne on Friday. The Stormers were always on top of their opponents, with their anticipated physical superiority being obvious from an early stage as they suffocated the home team virtually from the kick-off. However, considering the marked superiority in they had in most aspects of the game, you could say the Stormers made heavy weather of the four try bonus point. They...

The DHL Stormers continued their incredible defensive form during the 2011 Vodacom Super Rugby season by holding the Brumbies to just three points in their 16-3 victory on Saturday. Coach Allister Coetzee after the game said he was very happy with his side’s performance in what were not the most ideal conditions. “It was a good victory for our boys. It wasn’t pretty, but it is the first ever win for the DHL Stormers in Canberra. “The conditions out there were very difficult; the ball was wet because of the dew. In addition we made five changes to the team,...
